Admired MTV’s acoustic show, MTV Unplugged is coming back this September with pop star Shawn Mendes.
“I’m so thrilled and honored to be able to help bring the Unplugged series back,” Shawn said. “It’s a show that truly highlights artistry and brings unique performances to fans that they can’t see anywhere else.”
MTV Unplugged was launched in 1989 and aired frequently until 2009. Iconic performances of Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen became legendary, but for Mendes, as he told Variety, it was a Pearl Jam’s Unplugged session from 1992 that got him excited about the show. He said: “It wasn’t so much about the commercial, showman side of it; It was really about the music”.
Mendes is making the first appearance from downtown Los Angeles Theater at Ace Hotel. The show is scheduled to air on September 8.
